Most people are familiar with rigid tape. It’s good for ankles (netball, football and rugby), and for shoulders in contact sports (football and rugby) but most people and athletes find that rigid tape is too stiff and restrictive. Rocktape is quickly becoming the preferred tape used for many applications commonly worn by many elite athletes.
Key benefits of using Rocktape
- Decrease pain – lift the skin and take the pressure off the nerve endings which are compressed
- Reduce swelling – increase circulation to further reduce the pressure on the compressed nerve endings
- Allows full range of movement – functional support as opposed to rigid support
- Hypoallergenic – acrylic adhesive instead of a zinc oxide adhesive
- Water resistant - can be worn in the shower and be left on for up to 5 days
Key symptoms that CrossFit athletes might find that Rocktape is applicable for include
- Muscle pain or cramping
- Knee pain
- Shoulder pain
- Inflammation or bruising
- Zinc oxide allergies
The different colours or patterns are purely for fashion purposes, with the bright colours for those who want to stand out. There are 30 Youtube videos for different applications on www.rocktape.com.au

After the success of previous years gone by, we have once again planned a Cocktail Ball to follow on from the Primal Throwdown. In 2013 we are hosting it the following Saturday to allow everyone plenty of time to recover and gear up for another of the almost legendary post Primal Parties.

Last year we saw an awesome event had by all that attended and we heard nothing but great feedback from all!!
This year we have really looked to step things ups by securing a fantastic venue - The Crown Perth. We have also extended the food and beverage package to go for the full 5 hours but at the same time we have reduced the ticket price!!
This will once again be a fantastic night so we invite everyone within the Crossfit community as well as partners and friends to come along. Tickets will be limited, so get in fast and don’t miss out.

Last chance to secure entry into the Primal Throwdown 2013
Firstly, we'd would like to acknowledge the overwhelming response from the WA CrossFit community in supporting this years Primal Thorwdown. Once again we witnessed the selling out of all bar the Ladies Rx'd categories within minutes. Massive effort guys!
Secondly, we hadn't anticipated such a response so a 'plan b' or as you now know it the 'Primal Wildcard Weekend' has been created.
Before we detail out how the 'Primal Wildcard Weekend' will work we'd like to touch on a few key points as to why we're holding strong on the numbers chosen per category for the Primal:
- Maintaining the competitions integrity. With to many athletes there is too much room to miss something
- Logistically trying to run more athletes, with bigger heats means more and more equipment which for a local comp is unachievable
- More athletes equals less workouts
- Quality of the workouts
- If we don't draw a line and cap numbers where will it end up....?
Ok now onto the 'Primal Wildcard Weekend'
This will be a separate event/weekend to the Primal Throwdown where the top 5 from each category will gain a spot to compete in the Primal Throwdown 2013. As it stands the ladies Rx'd category isn't sold out so they will not be included as you may still purchase tickets directly to the Primal.
***Note that this will replace the waiting list. This is also the only chance to gain a ticket to the Primal Throwdown 2013 if you don't already have one.
1 Weekend- Saturday the 18th May & Sunday 19th of May. You will compete on one of the days. As it stands the Saturday will host the Ladies Beginners, Mens Beginner & Ladies Intermediate with the Sunday hosting the remaining 2 categories Mens Intermediates and Mens Rx'd.
This event will be hosted at Southern CrossFit for both days.
30 tickets per athlete category. Tickets will go on Sale this Sunday the 14th at 11am. They will cost $40each.
Workouts will remain a mystery until the weekend. If you finish in the top 5 of your category you will then qualify for a ticket to the Primal Throwdown.
We understand that this isn't a perfect solution however it's the best available option we have to include as many people as possible in such a popular event.
Don't forget we always can do with more help during the Primal Throwdown so feel free to head over to our volunteer page and fill in your details to lend a hand over the weekend.
Remeber Sunday at 11am the tickets to the first ever Primal Wildcard Weekend will be released!
For the first time ever in a Primal Series Competition we will be hosting a Friday Night Lights event for the Rx'd category.
The biggest news to come out of the Primal Throwdown 2013 so far is the addition to the Rx'd category now competing on the Friday night along with the usual Saturday & Sunday competition.
Rx'd athlete's will be required from 7-9pm on Friday the 28th June to kick of the first event of this years Throwdown.
All other athletes from the beginners and intermediate categories will be allowed to attend and spectate this first event and they may also use this as an opportunity to register early before the regular early Saturday morning rego!
Interested in or know someone who might be interested in becoming a sponsor of the Primal Throwdown 2013?
Once again we would like to take this opportunity to ask if you would be interested in sponsoring the event. We're looking to get sponsors onboard ASAP so that we can get the go ahead to start organising the marketing materials, i.e., t-shirts, posters, flyers, website banners, etc...
This year we decided early to go big or go home. So on the back of that we have chosen to step it up a notch and hold the event at the Claremont Showground over the weekend of the 28, 29 & 30th of June. The Claremont Showground is home to the Perth Royal Show and more than 240 annual events, attracting over one million visitors a year to Perth’s favourite multi-purpose venue. (http://www.claremontshowground.com.au/).
We have already began our marketing for this year including these videos which will give you a better picture of the type of event you can expect from the Primal Throwdown 2013.
