What is The Primal Throwdown?
The Primal Throwdown is the celebration of Southern CrossFit's anniversary, so we thought we'd do it in true CrossFit style and Host a games day !!
The Primal Throwdown is the ultimate test of fitness for anyone in Perth, Western Australia. The Throwdown is a grueling multi-day, multi-event competition to determine the Fittest Man & Woman in Western Australia.
This year, it will take place over 2 days. The first day being and open competition hosted at an as yet to be annouced venue and the second day will see the best of the best battle it out in the finals at Southern CrossFit's facility in Willetton, WA.
There are six categories of competition happening simultaneously: Men's Rx'd(Advanced), intermediate & beginner and Women's Rx'd(advanced), intermediate & beginner.
What are the workouts? Each year they change and the details of them are not announced until a couple of days before the event. This means that all year long the athletes are training for a competition whose format is almost completely a mystery. Continually training for 'the unknown & unknowable!'

What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is an evidence-based fitness program. We define fitness as increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Capacity is the ability to do real work, which should be measurable. Life is unpredictable (much more so than sport), so real world fitness must be broad and not specialized. Our workouts are designed to maximize this broad, inclusive fitness. For more information, see our Theory of CrossFit.
What are the CrossFit Games? Heres the history of the CrossFit Games for a better understanding of a CrossFit competition. An overview of the World CrossFit Games can be found HERE.
Categories of Competition
At The Primal Throwdown we will have Beginner, Intermediate and Rx'd levels of competition.
At the end of the day, we want this event to be for all levels of fitness and it's really about coming together and having a good time with great people and busting your ass for fun!!
Each category of competition is designed to accomodate differing levels of fitness and skill.
The Rx’d(advance) is where the BIG dog's are at. We will expect you to be able to RX all the main site or SXF’s site WOD’s. If you have to sub for some reason, you can. But you will continue the competition as an unranked competitor.
Intermediate is the level for the folks that can RX (complete wod's as recommended) almost everything but are lacking some key items. The key word is SOME not all or a lot. For example: I have a sub 4 Fran but can’t lift 60kg’s over my head; OR I have a 20 minute 5k, but I can only dead-lift my body weight and I'm missing a muscle-up.
Beginner is for anybody out there who has some experience with fitness, but but might be a bit nervous about competiting in a competition. A beginner will also be someone who has to look up half of what was written here or have someone translate it for them.
